Sunday, March 2

This was a really eventful week!

It was a week stuffed full of laughter and sadness and everything in between, starting from the change of our timetables - which meant immense horror because we now end at 4.10pm on thursdays, and a funny triple history back-to-back on fridays. But still it seems fun enough! We end latest at 1plus on all the other days (with a fantastic 12 noon on fridays) and we spend our wednesdays in RI raja block classrooms!

And there are new additions (and subtractions) to 09A01C! Cherrie Vanessa Qiwen and Qynh An from A03A, and Matthew from ACJ! And they've been a really nice bunch so far :D Unfortunately, our dear Natalie and Yunsong left. OMG HEARTBREAK LA YUNSONG LEFT; he was the life of our class with his crazy jokes and antics. Yunsong we hope your appeal gets throughhh!

This has pretty much been a rather pressurized week due to the fact that there were two history term papers, a lit commentary and two essay outlines to complete for the week, and it wasn't any joke trying to struggle through hammering thousands of words away on the keyboard every single night. I'm really glad I pulled through, finishing Int'l Hist term paper on sunday, Lit commentary on tuesday, SEA Hist term paper on wednesday (omg i actually finished 2000+ words in 3 hours!), nothing on thursday and everything was over by friday! And A01C has been quite fun over these few days rushing essays and whatnot, over our many mugging sessions.

Like in this where we whipped out our iPods and found much diversity! We have here, VICTOR'S NEW ULTRA COOL IPOD NANO WHICH MAKES HIM TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL, Kexin's retro ipod mini, some fun guy's ultra power ipod touch :D :D :D and Sambor's cute ipod shuffle! And there probably are more! One day we'll stack them up and take a fun A01C iPod nature reserve kind of thing.

On tuesday I gladly got myself excused from PE and found my way back to RI a few metres away for RIPB's 2008 Prefects' Investiture. This time it was such a different feel for the fact that I was going to PI not as an RI prefect but as a J1 old boy, watching them from the audience instead of being onstage together with everyone else, and having slogged the past few weeks and struggled together with all of them to make everything come together nicely. But it was just as impressive, if not more impressive, watching them from here as compared to being with them up there!

I met old faces like Mr Paul Lim, Mr Teo, many of the RI teachers, some fun RI guys, the prefects (namely Boss, Zongyi, Yuda, Theo, and many more) and it was really a pleasant experience being in an RI event again. I really miss being part of the school. And what can I say - the prefects pulled it off with aplomb again :D in the midsts of possibly demoralizing AV errors and blunders, the prefects just carried on with strength and dropped no sweat. Just like the RIPB I know.

Congratulations to RIPB, especially the new 2008 exco and the NEPs - this is your one distinctive year in which you can make a big positive difference to everyone around you, even beyond RI. Live naturally as how you would be, passionate for your causes and they'll serve you well. Love life as how it is and learn to discover more passions. Never be cynical, or try not to. The only thing the school asks of you, is your best, and nothing else. All the best guys :D

And I really like the new pb shirt. It looks like the album cover of AFI's Decemberunderground, don't you think! Really cool!

Well thats another year into RIPB, ftw! Hmm well over these days as we slowly seep into tests and more work, we get a little demented at times out of fatigue and yeah there are these moments of madness which we truly enjoy. Like after assembly on wednesday (which was the CCA colours ceremony which lasted like only 15 minutes heh) I ran into Jerome, Chriskwan, Tingzhang and Paul and we went through what seemed like a lunchtime of jokes!

Here's Jerome with his yellow tongue! Ok no he had an unbroken egg yolk in his mouth and he was planning to keep the yolk in his mouth unbroken for as long as possible. So as a result he was talking to us without pronouncing his words properly haha! Like 'I'ng tying hoo heep his egg unhroken in eye 'outh!'

AND YES HERE, I PRESENT YOU, TINGZHANG THE ECONOMIST.

Photobucket

Due to his very active mental state that afternoon he conjured a new economic theory on the spot while we were eating. He rattled off a new sentences then he suddenly arrived at his new theory, through an (zomg) SLIP OF THE TONGUE. He hereby presents you...

DEPLY AND SUMMAND
The new economic theory which illustrates how consumers and suppliers co-exist while they are having lunch with a bunch of jokers. A Deply curve is a happy-face parabola while a Summand curve is a sad-face parabola. They intersect each other at two points and hence they have two points of market equilibrium - a tingzhang equilibrium and a non-tingzhang equilibrium. Presence of tingzhang the economist raises the market quantity but keeps the price constant. FOR THE WIN!

What a lunchtime I tell you :D Well after that I had Interhouse Rangoli! Rangoli is essentially the Indian art of floor-painting through the sprinking of coloured rice grains, and coming up with various designs. BW came in third, but well we had a lot of fun working away at our Rangoli! Cheers to our J1 team! Jiahao Chenghan Theodora Gracezhang plus Zhiying Siti and Ashley!

Photobucket

The finished product looked really really nice; given that we had a lot of problems with rice shortage (talk about famine man) and colour shortage as well. Plus the blue rice gave Grace alot of problems hahah. And in the end we pulled it off quite nicely, with the lion and the flower!

Photobucket

And the cool thing was, looking at the Rangoli upside down, the lion turns into a rooster instead! Hahaha it was totally unplanned that way and we were rather surprised that it looked like that! Pleasant thing which came our way :D

Photobucket

But yeah Rangoli was tough, setting a good design, sprinking rice, dealing with shortage of rice, colour and time, whatnot. Thanks to siti the professional colour producer we had alot of fun colours in the end! And credit to all who helped and said that it was nice :D

I can't remember a lot of things which happened during the week, but a small portion of 09A01C went to J8 after our early-ending friday for a CHULALONGKORN OUTING - ThaiExpress ftw! There and then we affirmed that King Chulalongkorn of Thailand loved this dish called Khao Kluk Kapi Kung which is essentially shrimp paste fried rice and boy did we enjoy our dishes.

Photobucket

Ruiling Kexin and Ros! They had good food :D Ruiling had this cool spicy salad while Ros and Kexin had awesome green curry.

Photobucket

Our dearly loved frenchman Sambor! Who had really delicious beef kway teow. Next to him was val who had Khaoklukkapikung, same as me!

Photobucket

Poor Victor ordered what seemed like a really succulently tasty Omelette with Rice and in the end he landed himself with an S11 Fried egg with rice dish. And he emoed and emoed away ): BUT NEVERMIND VICTOR WE CAN ALWAYS HAVE ANOTHER CHULALONGKORN OUTING AND YOU CAN ORDER THE KHAO KLUK KAPI KUNG!

Eating thai food helps us remember our Southeast Asia History yknow. I can write an essay on it.

"Khao Kluk Kapi Kung was King Chulalongkorn's favourite dish and it contained shrimp paste to help him satisfy his hunger so he could rule Thailand properly unlike the other kings."

"Green curry is a form of angry spicy food. The military loved green curry and hence they all turned angry and started to initiate coups on the country."

"Beef was not accepted in Thailand because Buddhism forbid the consumption of beef. However, the foreigners in Thailand loved the beef kway teow and hence there was a clash of ideas and interests between the foreigners and locals. The tensions built up and paved the way to the Beef Kway Teow Cold War between Thais and the Beef-lovers."

"Thai salad was spicy and was hence used as a means of food for people who were not that hungry. That unfortunately put the Thais at unrest because of the spiciness, and this drove them to spill chilli padi powder over the French. This developed further into the French suppression of the Thais a few years later."
(HAHA BECAUSE RUILING KNOCKED OVER SAMBOR'S PLATE AND HE GOT OWNED BY CHILLI PADI POWDER ON HIS PANTS)

What a fun week :D NEXT WEEK WILL BE MORE FUN!
